DepetrilloOn February 2nd we celebrated Junior Achievement Groundhog Job Shadow Day with students from Woonsocket and Newport. Over fifty students were given the opportunity to learn about various departments at the Hyatt Regency Newport and The Hotel Viking. Not only did these students learn about lodging operations, they more importantly were introduced to hospitality professionals and were able to network with managers at each property. Rhode Island's Hospitality Industry Saw Shadows This Groundhog Day

Groundhog Job Shadow DayThis Groundhog Day over 50 students from the Woonsocket Area Career & Technical Center and the Newport Area Career & Technical Center shadowed hospitality representatives at both the Hyatt Regency Newport and the Hotel Viking.  Thanks to the generosity of these two member properties, students received the opportunity to tour one or both of the hotels and observe best practices of working within the hospitality industry. Central Falls Students Got a Closer Look at the Hotel Viking
  
 
Central Falls High School Visits Hotel VikingJust under 20 students from Central Falls took a tour through the Hotel Viking and learned that it takes a large team to successfully run a hotel.  After Director of Human Resources, Sue O'Donnell, gave the students a behind the scenes tour of the property, she brought them into a meeting room where they were greeted by eight department managers and General Manager, Mark Gervais, to hear what it takes to succeed.

2010 National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation Summer Institutes
 
All ProStart educators are invited to learn cutting edge skills, which you can then take back to the classroom and teach your students to prepare them for a rewarding career in the restaurant and foodservice industry.
 
Educator Training & Development Awards
 
Award winners will participate in corporate training and development programs alongside a diverse group of the company's managers in training. Each participating company provides a variety of training workshops designed to teach the skills necessary to effectively perform many of the tasks and functions required of professional managers.
FREE Hospitality Job Skills Training & Employment
The Newport Skills Alliance is launching its 2nd Hospitality On-Ramp Training Program, which will run for a total of 8 weeks. Through attendance you will gain a range of work-readiness skills and training to become a hospitality professional. You may also be eligible to receive a grant to help cover your personal expenses as you participate in this free training program.
Orientation: February 26
Training: March 1 - April 23
Time: 9am - 1pm, Monday - Friday
