Restaurant operators are more optimistic
about the economy.
According to the National Restaurant Association
thirty-four percent of restaurant operators say they
expect economic conditions to improve in six months, up
from 27 percent last month, according to Association
research. Although restaurant operators reported better
sales and traffic overall in December, capital spending
remains weak. Thirty-one percent say they made a capital
expenditure for equipment, expansion or remodeling in
the last three months, down from 33 percent the prior

Two and a half years ago, the managers at AS220
approached Josh Miller about starting up a restaurant.
Ready to embark on a campaign for the District 28 Senate
seat serving Cranston and Warwick, opening a new
business was the last thing on his mind. When Miller got
the green light to create a restaurant promoting locally
grown products, though, it was an offer he couldn't
refuse. And now, the senator is pushing that agenda
further than he could have imagined.
