RIHA has learned that Good Morning America will be doing a story on scams that have occurred/can occur in hotels in the context of the holiday season. This story is focused on situations such as when people get calls in the middle of the night asking for their credit card numbers, or scammers faking their Wi-Fi so it looks like the hotel Wi-Fi, etc. We believe the story will run this week or early next week.
AH&LA has provided Guest Safety Tips to keep your guests safe.
AH&LA has also sent Good Morning America this statement:
"Like other businesses and organizations, the hospitality industry is vigilant in attempting to identify and prevent dishonest activities during the holiday season. While AH&LA does not set security standards for the industry, it does provide regular updates to hoteliers on possible fraudulent behavior and scams targeting our industry as we learn of them. AH&LA has also created the AH&LA Guest Safety Tips for hotel visitors, which is available on our website, www.ahla.com. During the busy holiday season, it is critical that travelers also remain vigilant, use common sense when sharing personal information, and always err on the side of caution by contacting the hotel directly without hesitation when suspicious."
