2nd Annual Rhode Island ProStart®

The RI Hospitality Education Foundation (RIHEF), in collaboration with ProStart® and U.S. Foods, hosted the 2nd Annual Rhode Island ProStart® Culinary Competition on Thursday, March 28, 2013. Local Students competed for nearly $350,000 Scholarship Money and a chance to represent Rhode Island at the National ProStart® Invitational in Baltimore, Maryland.

34 students from across Rhode Island who are enrolled in ProStart®, a two-year hospitality career-building program designed by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation, competed in culinary arts and foodservice management.

Teams were evaluated by 20 local professional judges on safety/sanitation, knife skills, team work, culinary technique, menu design, restaurant concept, and marketing plans.

Participating students were from Chariho Regional Career & Technical Center, Cranston Area Career & Technical Center, Exeter Job Corps Academy, and William M. Davies Career & Technical High School.
