Event Details

Prepare your team for the season.  We are partnering with the Department of Homeland Security to offer this training free of charge.

This training will be conducted in two parts. 

The morning session will cover:

  • General best practices for security in the hospitality industry
  • Security relating to the upcoming World Cup. 
  • How to deal with potential and realized threats
  • How to identify suspicious packages and what to do (Rhode Island State Bomb Squad)
  • How to share and receive security related information with federal state and local agencies (Rhode Island State FUSION Center)

The afternoon session will cover what to expect from World Cup activities, fans and the special events that will be taking place during this summer.

Your lead trainer is Erik Ulmen from the US Department of Homeland Security.

Erik is the Protective Security Advisor for the State of Rhode Island, from the US Department of Homeland Security.  He has been in this assignment since 2015.  Prior to his work in Rhode Island, he worked as the Branch Chief for the Office of the Undersecretary of the National Protections and Programs Directorate of DHS.  Following graduation from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Civil Engineering, Mr. Ulmen started his career in the federal government as a Naval Officer in the US Navy Civil Engineer Corps, where he led Naval Construction Forces in both peacetime and wartime deployments.  Following his time with the NCF, he was assigned as the Public Works Officer for NAVFAC at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth VA.  After leaving the service, Mr. Ulmen was an intelligence officer for the federal government.  After leaving the intelligence community, he began his work with Homeland Security, first as a contractor, and then as a federal employee.  He was responsible for the development of a regional evaluation program, specifically looking at critical infrastructure resilience. He is a recognized subject matter expert in Critical Infrastructure, Active Assailant, School Safety, risk assessment and mitigation, and intelligence.

Mr. Ulmen is a native of upstate New York, and currently lives in Scituate, RI.
